This book intends to clarify the methodology used for species identification of fossilized shells of closely related bivalves solely based on morphological features while dealing with living bivalve species Mactra mera and Mactra turgida. It also addresses the use of multivariate morphometric analysis to distinguish between these two species in question and thereby arrived at a point of character displacement between these two species for their overlapping ecological niches.
