O knihe
Alden Bradford (1765-1843) Was Born At Duxbury, Massachusetts, A Descendant Of Gov. William Bradford Of The Plymouth Colony. He Graduated At Harvard In 1786, Taught Briefly There, And Was Later Ordained And Served As A Pastor Of The Congregational Church At Wicasset, Maine. There, He Was Renowned As "One Of Courtly Manners, Chivalric Bearing, The Purest Pilgrim Blood, A Man Of A True Public Spirit." He Quit His Ministry In 1801 For Health Reasons, And Moved To Boston, Where He Seems To Have Carried On An Active Life. He Worked, In Turn, As Clerk Of The Supreme Court Of Boston, As Secretary Of State, And As A Bookseller And Journalist. His "Massachusetts State Papers" (1815) And "Life Of Jonathan Mayhew" (1838) Are Still Of Value For The Original Historical Documents They Contain, And His "Particular Account Of The Battle Of Bunker Hill" Is Still Used In Modern Courses On The History Of Military Science.
