O knihe
This research work focuses on physical and chemical properties of an open dumpsite waste and heavy metal contamination levels in the old nekede Road, Imo State, Nigeria, a popular state in the South Eastern region. From the result of the investigation obtained, Iron (Fe) had the highest content all through the analysis. The results also showed that activities within the various control points might have been responsible for the increased level of iron (Fe) in the dumpsite. Results of physical and chemical properties indicated that refuse dumpsite to be slightly acidic soils with moderate moisture content. Thus; the overall physical and chemical parameters revealed that the soils were fertile to support plant species diversity, change and growth. It is therefore appropriate to recommend as follows: that solid waste deposited at the dumpsite contained materials with high heavy metal content; Hence, adequate refuse disposal mechanism should be put in place to reduce the high acidic content. Finally, strict compliance to regulatory standards and limits should be adhered with respect to releasing slurry from the villages into the environment.
