This tale of growing up Jewish and gay, and coming out in the North of England, Cambridge, and London in the second half of the twentieth century, filled with nai¿ve optimism, is undermined by witty, bitchy letters passing between two intimate, manipulative friends: Francis, a wealthy visiting professor in San Diego, and Jeremy, a musician in London, Director of British National Opera. Their political views differ, but they both love opera, acquisitiveness, and 'bears' (bearded, hairy men). Will these two latter-day successors of Les Liaisons Dangereuses both survive the early 1990s?
