O knihe

The UN General Assembly declared education as a human right in 1948. Developing countries and especially Sub Saharan Africa had to commit themselves to provision of education to their adult citizens. It is against this premise that this book examined the factors influencing participation of learners in adult literacy programmes in Kenya. The Authors surveyed the influence of economic, socio-cultural and institutional factors on participation of learners in adult literacy programmes. Findings indicated that there were more female instructors than male instructors, there was an acute shortage of instructors, learners were generally of low socio-economic status and Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) centres did not have physical facilities as well as they lacked relevant teaching/learning material. It was recommended that in order to realize UN dream, Sub Saharan countries should redress the factors addressed.
