All 259 persons on board of the aircraft and 11 residents of the town of Lockerbie were killed. In 2001 the Libyan Megrahi was sentenced to life imprisonment in Scotland. In 2009 Megrahi applied to be released from jail on compassionate grounds. His appeal was granted and on the 20th of August 2009 he was released from prison. But was Megrahi really guilty?
