Ko¿rperfantasien und Wartehallen-Heterotopien

Anna Uddenberg (geb. 1982 in Stockholm, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin und Stockholm) verfolgt mit ihrer ku¿nstlerischen Arbeit eine anspruchsvolle und polarisierende Sicht auf Ko¿rperlichkeit, Geschlecht und Warenästhetik. In Skulpturen und Performances untersucht die Ku¿nstlerin, wie Konsum, Spiritualität und Selbstinszenierung durch neue Technologien miteinander untrennbar verflochten sind. Bekannt geworden ist Uddenberg in den 2010er-Jahren vor allem durch ihre hypersexualisierten Figuren, die auf Trolleys durch den Ausstellungsraum reiten und Selfie-Sticks gen Himmel und in Richtung ihrer Hintern strecken. Doch Uddenbergs Werk ist neben diesen lasziven, irritierenden Ko¿rperbildern immer auch ein Spiel mit Raum. In neuen Arbeiten wendet sie sich dem Immobilienmarkt und heterotopischen Infrastrukturen zu. Die Verwendung von Designobjekten aus beispielsweise der Medizin oder der Automobilindustrie verweist auf Konzepte von Pflege und Komfort als Kontrollmittel.

Anlässlich der Auszeichnung der Ku¿nstlerin mit dem Hector-Preis 2022 erscheint Uddenbergs erste Monografie mit Arbeiten von 2016 bis heute. Neben einem Vorwort von Johan Holten, Direktor der Kunsthalle Mannheim, spricht Autor und Kurator Samuel Staples mit der Ku¿nstlerin. Caroline Busta, Gru¿nderin der Medienplattform New Models, nähert sich Uddenbergs Werk, das in seiner bildhauerischen Qualität durch die futuristische Neuanordnung von Alltagsgegenständen und Materialien besticht.

Body Fantasies and Waiting Room Heterotopias

Anna Uddenberg's (b. Stockholm, 1982; lives and works in Berlin and Stockholm) art pursues an ambitious and polarizing perspective on physicality, gender, and commercial aesthetics. The artist's sculptures and performances examine the inextricable entanglements that novel technologies engender between consumerism, spirituality, and self-promotion. Uddenberg rose to renown in the 2010s primarily with her hypersexualized figures riding through the gallery space on trolleys, their selfie sticks extended toward the sky and their butts, booties, crutches, pussies. Yet beyond these lascivious and provocative representations of bodies, Uddenberg's work is always also a play with space. In new works, she turns her attention to the real estate market and heterotopian infrastructures. The use of medical or automobile skeletal structures refers to the concepts of care and comfort as means of control.

Uddenberg's first monograph, featuring works created since 2016, is released on occasion of the artist's receipt of the 2022 Hector-Preis. It contains a foreword by Johan Holten, director of Kunsthalle Mannheim, and a conversation with the artist by the writer and curator Samuel Staples. Caroline Busta, founder of the media platform New Models, approaches Uddenberg's work that intrigues as a futuristic result of multiple rearrangements of everyday objects and materials.
