In various indigenous and traditional sources of medicine, plants have been extensively used for treatment. Exploration of the chemical constituents of the plants and their pharmacological screening may provide us the basis for developing the novel agents for treating various ailments. Annona squamosa commonly known as "custard apple" is also been extensively used as traditional medicine in various cultures. The genus name, 'Annona' is from the Latin word 'anon', meaning 'yearly produce', referring to the production of fruits of the various species in this genus. Traditionally, the leaves of the plant are used on the wounds to enhance healing. A wound can be infected with various microbial pathogens and Staphylococcus aureus is the commonest wound pathogen reported. It has been established that the microbial pathogens delay wound healing through several different mechanism. In the present scientific investigation initially, isolation and identification of Staphylococcus aureus was done from contaminated wounds.
