This study involved screening of various medicinal plants and spices commonly used by herbal medicine practitioners for bioactive compounds against bacteria. Standard bioassay methods were employed throughout this study. They included preliminary screening bioassay against human pathogenic bacteria strains using Agar Disc Diffusion method and the well plate method. The in vitro antimicrobial activities of ten Jazan medicinal plants and spices were evaluated and recorded. The plant materials and spices were extracted with 90% hexane and methanol, the extracts were primarily screened against conventional clinical pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aureginosa, Shegilla flexnerii, Salmonella thyphi, klebseilla, Acinobacter, Citrobacterby, the agar diffusion method and ditch or well plate method. Hexane and methanol extracts of ten (10) medicinal plants and spices: Origanum majorana, Curcum longa, Viscum album, Zingiberofficinale, Foeniculum vulgare, Trigonell afoenum, Rosemarium officinalis, Salvia officinalis, Matricaria recutitia, Pimpinella anisum.
