Jules Gabriel Verne (1828 - 1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. His most known work came from collaboration with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel which led to the creation of the Voyages extraordinaires, a widely popular series of adventure novels including the two presented in this book, Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873).
