O knihe
Over the last few decades, awareness of mental health problems and treatments has increased. Despite this increased awareness, stigma and negative attitudes towards persons with mental health problems are still inherently part of culture, especially African culture. There are several studies available on attitudes to mental health problems in Western countries; however, there are few in African countries. Without a better understanding of the attitudes and beliefs surrounding mental health, it is difficult, if not impossible, to address mental healthcare. This book, therefore, provides an insight into the beliefs and attitudes of students in a university in Africa towards mental health problems, and the cultural factors that play a role in these attitudes. The analysis of these attitudes should provide vital information on the prevailing beliefs, and aid in the creation of culturally relevant mental healthcare interventions.
