He has to apologize for two deviations from the plan originally proposed. The one by exchanging some of the subjects for others which have been considered as more interesting, either from the information by which they may be accompanied, or as affording more picturesque subjects for the plates. The other alteration is, the having formed the work into three volumes instead of four, although the number of plates is the same, and the letter-press, both in importance and quantity, more consider able than was originally proposed: the reasons for this were stated to the subscribers when the sixth number was published.
