Only two such Councils have thus far been held in this country. The first was convoked for May 9, 18525 by his Grace the Most Rev. Francis Patrick Kenrick, D. D., Archbishop of Baltimore and Apostolic Delegate.
There were present at this First Plenary Council 6 Archbishops, 25 Bishops, 1 Mitred Abbot, 11 Superiors of Religious Orders and Seminaries, 12 vicars-general and a great number oi the Rev. Clergy.
