O knihe
Endodontic disease is a biofilm-mediated infection, and primary aim in the management of endodontic disease is the elimination of bacterial biofilm from the root canal system. A biofilm is a highly organized structure consisting of bacterial cells enclosed in a self-produced extracellular polymeric matrix attached on a surface. It is foremost to understand how the biofilm formed by root canal bacteria resists endodontic treatment measures. The complexity and variability of the root canal system, together with the multi-species nature of biofilms, make disinfection of this system extremely challenging. Endodontic research has been focused on the characterization of root canal biofilms and the clinical methods to disrupt the biofilms in addition to achieving microbial killing.
