O knihe

This book is based on Alicia Hussain's master's study titled, Conceptualizing Success: Aspirations of four young Black Guyanese immigrant women for higher education (*Kelly, 2009). Alicia shared the immigration and education experiences of four Black Guyanese immigrant women in Ontario who agreed that their concepts of success included a postsecondary education. With very different life stories, these four courageous women invited Alicia into their lives and agreed to have her tell their stories to help improve the immigration and education experiences for future immigrant women in Canada. Alicia acknowledged that it was unacceptable to assume that the four research participants' experiences are equivalent to the experiences of all Black Guyanese immigrant women in Canada. Rather, by sharing the voices of these four women Alicia opened a conversation on the understandings we might bring to their experiences as they negotiate their lives as immigrants in Canada. Alicia employed qualitative methods to gather data and Critical Race Theory (CRT) to analyze data. *Kelly was the author's surname prior to December 2010.
