O knihe
This book provides a comprehensive estimate of organic carbon stored and carbon sequestration potential of mangrove (Avicennia marina), non-mangrove mudflats, hypersaline ecosystem, and 10 years old planted mangrove. The estimate included organic carbon stored in the mangrove vegetation in aboveground, belowground biomass beside the stored in sediments down to one meter depth. Three different techniques were used for the estimate of organic carbon stored in sediments, low-temperature loss-on ignition, high-temperature loss-on ignition, and wet digestion with potassium dichromate. Modeling the relation between the three applied techniques enables researchers in the future to compare their results as different techniques showed different results. The book indicated the great importance of the mangrove ecosystem struggling on the coast of one of the world's poor seas in the world (Red Sea) in one of the world's arid deserts (Sahara Desert). Mangroves are an important asset for mitigation of the elevated levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide and expected climate changes since restoration/rehabilitation programs on previously depleted sites are more efficient than on non-mangrove sites.
