My counsel were not allowed to go into the merits of the case, though they had pledged themselves that if their Lordships would allow them to do so, even without the additional evidence, they should be able to convince them of my rights, and to induce them to come to a different conclusion from that which they had arrived at on the former occasion, by reason of the little elucidation and explana tion that was offered to them at that time, of those documents which had been so grievously misconstrued and misrepresented by the Commissioners.
