Insurgency has been on the increase in Nigeria now with the alarming rate of terrorist attacks perpetrated by the Boko Haram members in the north-east of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa particularly and with spatial occurrences in Kano, Bauchi, Plateau, Kastina and Abuja the federal capital territory. This has necessitated the declaration of a state of emergency in the three most affected states (Borno, Yobe and Adamawa) by the federal government with a heavy military presence and curfew in order to reduce attacks and curtail the sect's onslaughts. This development has had serious devastating effects on Nigeria's national security and territorial integrity as Boko Haram operates along the nation's borders with Cameroun, Niger and Chad posing threats of intrusions and unsafe borders. The situation has also de-attracted foreign investors while killing local investments as conducive and safe havens are not guaranteed for economic and business activities, especially in the affected parts of the country. This book examines how Boko Haram began and grew to a continental terrorist organization, what has aided its dramatic transformation from a mere Muslim body and fundamentalist.
