Some typical applications of surface manufacturing are Spray painting, Spray forming, polishing, rapid tooling spray coating, where industrial robots are used. Tool planning for industrial robots in surface manufacturing is a challenging research topic. Typical teaching methods are not affordable anymore because products are subjected to a shorter life, frequent design changes, small lot sizes, and small in-process inventory restriction. An automatic tool planning process is highly desirable for tool trajectory planning of industrial robots. Generating a robot tool trajectory in manufacturing application is a complex task as it involves considering many parameters simultaneously. Tool trajectory estimation for a free form surface by an offline programming methodology for the robot, based on a computer-aided design model of a part, the tool model, task constraints, and optimization criteria is done. This book primarily targeted towards the generation of robot trajectory with minimal time for batch production industries.
