Arthur was 14 and in the fifth grade. He has a very dark complexion that reminded me of smooth chocolate pudding. Even mild-white teeth lit up his snarling smile, an empty smile that didn't quite match his eyes, which betrayed him. He spent much of the day using inappropriate language loud enough for me to hear him.
"Mrs. Forrester," he would yell out. "Where is the AC?" I tried to ignore him, but he would not let me.
"It's hot up in this b---h!" The other children thought he was hysterical and responded in kind.
Yoddie walked into the room, late again. She walked to her seat with a swagger that make a grown-person blush. She was quite tall and slender. Beautiful black, wavy hair cascaded onto her shoulders. I thought what power she has for being only 11 year-old.
