This study was carried out to examine the practice of catena farming on a volcanic landscape in Kerang area of Jos Plateau. Data on various farm practices, types of crop grown, soil types, soil management and socio economic background of the farmers were collected and analyzed. The method adopted are observations, field measurements, questionnaire administration and soil sampling for data collection and analysis. The study showed considerable variation in soil properties, soil fertility, soil management, farm practice, crop performances and production across the various landscape segments i.e. from the crest, through the side slope, upper foot slope, and Middle foot slope to the lower foot slope. Crops such as rice, sugar cane, cocoyam, pepper and tomato that need a lot of water to grow well are cultivated at the lower foot slope while crops such as Guinea corn, Ground nut and maize that requires well drained soils are grown on the upper and middle foot slope.
