O knihe
Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPSMs) affect agricultural exports from developing countries by acting either as barriers or catalysts to competitiveness. Therefore as efforts are made to diversify the agricultural export base into non-traditional exports, regulators and exporters should attach increased importance to SPSMs. This books seeks to understand their impact on exports from Guyana through ex post analysis. A gravity model is employed with an index measuring stringency to study the impact of SPSMs on bilateral trade between Guyana and three of its leading export markets; the United States of America (USA), European Union (EU) and Barbados for two non-traditional product groups; fish and fish preparations (FFP) (03) and fruits and vegetables (F&V) (05). The results suggest that a strategic approach is necessary to ensure the long term sustainability of exports of non-traditional agricultural products from Guyana.
