Before the squad is put in motion, the instructor will take care that the men are square individually and in correct line with each other. Each soldier must be taught to move straight to his front. By fixing his eye upon some object on the ground directly in front of him and then Observing some nearer point in the same straight line, such as a stone or a tuft-oi grass. The two objects must be kept in line when he advances.
