O knihe
The main objective of this research that was presented at the Department of Biology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on the 10th of February 2004 was the investigation of the correlation between productivity in mosquito larvae and the physiognomically distinct types of vegetation in the coastal natural system of the Prefecture of Kavala in East Macedonia-Thrace Province, in northern Greece. The centre idea of the task was the use of plant species as bioindicators in order to pinpoint areas in natural wetlands where concentrated presence of mosquito larvae is to be expected. In addition, it was investigated how productivity was influenced by the frequency and intensity of rainfall and also an attempt was undertaken to construct a preliminary productivity forecasting model for mosquito larvae in natural systems based, on the prevailing wetland vegetation of a region. The results were depicted on thematic maps, which were created with the help of GIS software.
