Dupre's Song: A Story From The American Civil War
Estelle Viator is a lovely, privileged Southern woman that has an aptitude for attending those in need. She has spent much of her life shielding her obsessive and demanding younger sister. When her sister's compulsive actions threaten to destroy Estelle's hopes and aspirations, she is driven to choose between abandoning the man she loves or her sister's sanity and soul.

Dupre Hulin is a young Acadian woodsman that has spent two years avoiding the conscription efforts of the Confederate Army. Unsympathetic to the cause, he has nonetheless faced an existence as dangerous as any combat soldier. He has spent those two years protecting the vulnerable civilians in his community from the skulking jayhawker bands that prowl the countryside. Although his efforts are noble, he soon finds himself experiencing the horror of war and the duality of his own nature.

Julia Viator is a beautiful woman often driven to imposing her will. Her competitive spirit has motivated her to success all of her life, at any price. Now she must face a challenge of her own design that may drive her to madness and destroy her family.

Caesar Antoine is a runaway slave whose dearest friend from childhood was Dupre Hulin. Now in the Union Army, he will only be able to gauge the depth of his contempt for his former enslavers when he unexpectedly finds Dupre in his rifle sights.

From the horror of the battlefields of Civil War Louisiana to the triumph of human resolve in the face of tremendous adversity, Dupre's Song is an affirmation of the frailty, brutality and generosity of the human spirit.
