During the following year more of Hadley's early settlers came over in the Griffin, and the tedium of the two months' voy age was beguiled by listening to one hundred and twenty ser mons, two being preached on each week - day and three on Sun day.
Among the passengers were three divines, eminent both for learning and piety - the Rev. John Cotton, Thomas Hooker, and Samuel Stone. Only the latter, however, dared to show himself on deck until they were well out at sea.
