O knihe
Flooding is a global problem that results from natural and anthropogenic influences. On seasonal basis, floodwater submerges vast area of agricultural land of Hadejia-Nguru wetland, Nigeria. Soil and groundwater are the most important resources for agricultural production in the area and are being affected by flooding. Hence, the goal of this study is to investigate the effect of long - term flooding on selected soil and groundwater properties in Hadejia-Nguru wetland for sustained agricultural productivity. However, bearing in mind contribution of landuse and soil types to influencing soil and groundwater properties, major landuse and soil types in the study location were duly captured and assessed. The study area lies in the eastern part of Jigawa State and covered substantial part of lowland area of the state; comprised of six local government areas. A total of 162 each of composite and core soil samples were collected from across Seasonally Flooded Field (SFF), Non-Flooded Field (NFF), irrigated rice, rainfed millet and natural fallow landuse systems, each under Inceptisols, Vertisols and Entisols soil orders in three replicates and at three soil depths.
