O knihe

Dental implants are used to replace both the form and function of missing teeth. To be a candidate for the implant therapy, a patient must have sufficient bone in the maxillary and mandibular ridges to support these implants. However in many cases the insufficient vertical bone height of the residual ridge and poor bone quality give rise to difficulties in implant placement specially in the maxillary posterior area. This is partially due to the sinus pneumatization after tooth extraction. To overcome such anatomical and physiological problems, a sinus elevation procedure was proposed which is a surgical intervention intended to increase the height of the maxillary sinus floor in the cranial direction generating an appropriate bone height that can accommodate placement of functional dental implants which was composed of sinus membrane elevation step and bone graft step. For maxillary sinus membrane elevation, either the lateral approach or the crestal one is used depending on the residual ridge bone height. Transalveolar sinus augmentation with the aid of sinus balloon is built on the osteotome procedure designated by Summers.
