O knihe
The story in this book is a true account of events that the author, Jóhanna Sigrún Ingvarsdóttir, experienced as a child. The setting is a small farm in a barren valley at the foot of the glacier Drangajökull in the Westfjords in Iceland, north below the Arctic Circle. The title quotes a poem by Alfred Tennyson, Flowers in a Broken Wall, which he wrote in 1863. The poem appeared in the book Bahá'u'lláh and the New Era by John E. Essslemont. The residents of Lyngholt, a remote farm in the aforementioned valley of Unaðsdalur (Valley of Delight) on Snæfjallaströnd (Snowy Mountains Coast), happened to receive a copy of the first translation of the book into Icelandic. During the short time this book remained in Lyngholt, the book was carefully studied. A long time later, and as it seemed after a futile search, this valuable book reappeared in an unexpected way. Frásögnin í bókinni er sönn lýsing á atburðum sem höfundurinn, Jóhanna Sigrún Ingvarsdóttir, upplifði sem barn. Sögusviðið er lítill sveitabær í hrjóstrugum dal við rætur Drangajökuls norður undir heimskautsbaug. Titillinn vitnar í ljóð eftir Alfred Tennyson, Blóm í brotnum vegg, sem hann orti árið 1863. Ljóðið hafði verið birt í bókinni Bahá'u'lláh og nýi tíminn eftir John E. Essslemont. Fyrsta þýðing bókarinnar á íslensku barst í hendur íbúanna á Lyngholti, afskekktum sveitabæ í áðurnefndum dal sem ber nafnið Unaðsdalur á Snæfjallaströnd. Bókin var gaumgæfilega lesin á þeim stutta tíma sem hún dvaldi á Lyngholti. Löngu síðar, og að því er virðist eftir árangurslausa leit, barst þessi hugleikna bók aftur á óvæntar slóðir.
