FOREST GOVERNANCE AND TIMBER TRADE

The Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA-FLEGT) between the European Union and Cameroon has been the subject of intense negotiations between the two parties. Its nature is both a trade agreement and a partnership agreement, but also a development agreement. This didactic, pedagogical and therefore instructive book gives a holistic overview of the agreement and provides a technical guide to forest governance for all actors in the timber export sector to the European Union's community market. Starting with the origins of the FLEGT-VPA, it explains the FLEGT licensing scheme, the process and the new conditions for timber trade to the EU. This regime includes in its articulations, a system of verification of legality and the stages of traceability of the wood of Cameroonian origin. It should be noted that for community reasons, this regime is extended to timber from all CEMAC countries whose export would be from Cameroon. With such a content, this book can be considered as an essential guide for the understanding of this agreement.
