O knihe

Peacekeeping training centres are major avenues for providing training for peacekeepers. Lopsidedness in deployment of male and female peacekeepers witnessed globally however prompted the international call for the promotion of gender education for peacekeeping operatives as a way of addressing the dearth of female participation in peace operations. The question then is how well Gender has been integrated into Peacekeeping Training world over, and Africa in particular. This book presents the outcome of a study that examined the state of gender training in peacekeeping training centres in West Africa and how these compare with the United Nations Guidelines for Gender in Peacekeeping. Recommendations for the establishment of strong affirmative policies and programmes that promote gender training, aa well as the complete alignment of peacekeeping training curricular with the UN gender training guidelines in all training centres, are some of the outcomes of the study.
