Golkar, as the trendsetter and the backbone of the New Order era (Soeharto regime, the period 1966-1998), was so dominant in organizing and playing the country politics in almost every field of national development. The dominance has become increasingly out of control by the public (read: non-Golkar, PPP-United Development Party, Indonesian Democratic Party-PDI, and other critical communities) since Golkar collaborated with ABRI and Bureaucracy through Golkar Family (KBG/BECs) or ABG Line (ABRI, Bureaucracy, and Golkar), so that the process of politics and government is autocratic. This autocratic pattern now (in the Reform Era) has been increasingly changing towards an immediate democratic pattern since the national reform movement in 1998. In this book, by the author, is described factually-empirically-with reference to the conceptual-theoretical framework constructed-about how Golkar's political change took place, why it happened, in what direction the changes were, and how the impacts of the changes were-both structurally at the national level and interactively at the local level in Bandung Municipality.
