Goodness on Deposit: Captain Enlightening--Myles to Go is the second in the Goodness on Deposit series. In this story, M.T., our main character, is fascinated by and is a huge fan of this comic book superhero Captain Enlightening. Captain Enlightening possesses many superpowers, which capture M.T.'s imagination. Each week, armed with his weekly allowance, M.T. goes to his neighborhood candy store to purchase the next issue. It is something of an event. In the course of buying his comic books, he becomes friendly with the store owner, Mr. A. Oftentimes, between locating his comic book and paying for it, M.T. engages in conversation with Mr. A. He learns that Mr. A., as a young boy, had a favorite superhero too. They form a bond over their common interest, and over time, M.T. looks equally forward to schooling Mr. A. on why Captain Enlightening is the best superhero of all time. Mr. A. opens up to M.T. about his family--in particular his grandson, Myles. He laments the fact that he doesn't have the time to visit Myles as often as he would like to because of his responsibilities in taking care of his store. He shares with M.T. that while he would like to hire someone to help out, he simply cannot afford it. M.T. sees how important it is to Mr. A., and he wants to be a part of the solution. He comes up with a plan whereby he and his two friends can stop by after school and on weekends to help out in the store. This story has a dual message. It addresses work-life balance issues and the ability of a child to make a difference.
