O knihe
Greek painters, following the current of an artistic "immigration", come to Paris. Greece, a country totally engendered from its ashes, was trying to find the links that would unite it with its glorious past. After four centuries of tyrannical slavery and a revolution for independence, Greece, victorious, looks to the future free. The main representatives of the French school arrived in Paris after 1840 and especially in the second half of the 19th century. Greek painters as well as new Ulysees left a country that was beginning to live again and they came to the City of Enlightenment to taste the great dream. Many of them will live all their lives in Paris and others after a long stay they will go to Athens. We could point out that they are the first to open the artistic dialogue between Paris and Athens, leaving the Munich academy in second place. This dialogue will continue in the twentieth century and it will provide the basis for a modernism and a renewal of neo-hellenic painting.
