To this description the few Baptist churches then existing, (with their ministry,) formed an honorable exception. As God's building, their doors, and onlv theirs, were always closed against the admission of any but believers, baptized on profession of their faith in the Lord Jesus. They had not been corrupted from the simplicity which is in Christ, and long they stood, the only moral beacons sending forth the pure light of the gospel to illume the thick darkness that hung around.
