Growth of Kappaphycus alvarezii at Gujarat coast

This book comprises details of growth of seaweed Kappaphycus alvarezii at three different culture sites( Oklahoma,mithapur,veraval).Initially 2 kg of material ware planted in 5 rafts ateach place in three culture sites. Growth and Physico chemical parameters were measured at every 15 days interval, final harvest was done at 75 days. Highest mean growth was observed at Mithapur site with 19.18±0.44 Kg FW followed by Veraval with 18.072±0.49 Kg FW and Okha 17.352±0.79 Kg FWMean Daily Growth Rate (%) was higher in Mithapur with 3.01 % at 75 days followed by Veraval with 2.93%. Lowest DGR% was recorded in Okha with 2.87%.In present study it was observed that DGR% is reducing after cultivation of 45 days. It shows that it is not advisable to keep Kappaphycus alvarezii for more than 45 days. It is also observed that there are no significant differences in DGR% at 45 days among all three culture sites. Hence it is advisable to harvest Kappaphycus alvarezii at 45th day, to reduce the expenses of maintenance of raft and labour charges
