The cultural heritage of South Africa is threatened daily. Reason for this are new development, the damage made to heritage sites which are not accepted by all or since people are not vigilant in this regard. Despite this, South Africa has some of the most progressive heritage legislation in the world. This guide aims to provide practical guidelines for scholars on South African heritage management and can also be used by members of the public to preserve the heritage in their surroundings. It gives a short overview of heritage legislation and shows how communities can become involved in the protection of their heritage.
