Modern Indonesian peoples include the Javanese, Sundas, Madurun, Malaysians of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore, Miningkabau, Bugi, Maqasari, Bataki, Balinese and others. The same group includes the languages of the Philippine peoples: Tagalog, Visaya, Ilok, Bikolov, Banjar, Ifugao and others. Indonesian languages are also used by a group of Taiwanese mountain peoples - the Gaoshan, the Chams in southern Vietnam and Cambodia, and the Malagasy people of Madagascar (Malgasi). In the modern understanding, all peoples speaking the languages of the Malay-Polynesian language family, which is widespread and outside the Malay Archipelago, are united with the Indonesians. In anthropologists' work, the term "Indonesians" applies not only to the population of Indonesia, but also to the ancient population of South-East Asia. The indigenous population of the Indonesian islands, the Malacca Peninsula, consists mainly of Malay tribes and peoples, by the name of which the archipelago is called the Malay. Therefore, the concept of "Malay" includes a different understanding, it is also a common earlier name of the peoples of Southeast Asia speaking the languages of the Indonesian branch, and ethnic communities in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore Brunei, East Timor.
