Data mining is a step in the Knowledge Discovery in Databases process that consists of applying data analysis and discovery algorithms that produce a particular enumeration of patterns or models over the data. A broad view of data mining functionality is adopted as "data mining is the process of discovering interesting knowledge from large amounts of data stored either in databases, data warehouses, or other information repositories". Data mining is applied on large data-sets to unveil the wealth of knowledge buried therein.
