I know I have fallen far short of my aim, which was to sketch out of these ancient Rolls a full picture of village life in southern England in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. All I can venture to say is that I have done the best I could under the circumstances, and hope that the Hampshire Record Society will take a lenient view Of my shortcomings.
