This monograph presents, in chronological order, 60 excerpts from unique classified and top secret (now declassified) documents dated 1942-1948 and kept in the Archive of Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation. These documents, a substantial part of which is introduced into academic study for the first time, are accompanied by rare photographs of the past era, as well as footnotes and commentaries explaining the current events in the colonial and liberated from the Japanese yoke Korea, including on the eve of its split into two ideologically irreconcilable states. The monograph will be useful to professors, graduate and undergraduate students at universities with Korean studies departments and to all those interested in Korean history and its relations with the USSR, the United States, China, Japan, and other countries.
