The spread of human civilization and the scientific advancement in the recent years has brought all of us nearer. However, the oldest of the occupations in human civilization- sheep grazing is still the backbone of all the Nations '. The sheep grazing is supposed to be the oldest occupation the humanity had developed and still sheep grazing has continued for centuries. The shepherds who are basically the sheep rearing people have also undertaken agriculture and weaving of woolen blankets as their main occupation. The well known Tondamandalam (a historical state) of which Kanchipuram was once the capital, is said to have been previously called Kurumba Bhomi, Kurumbandu, Kurumbara Nadu (land of Kurubas) forms which is still an integral part in Malabar. Having such historical, social, occupational, cultural and political importance the Kuruba caste plays a prominent role in the democratic set up of India.
