O knihe
This study on livestock technologies and services in the Southern Maasai rangelands of Kenya was carried out between November 2010 and June 2016 with the specific objective of assessing the status of livestock technologies and services in Mashuru Sub County, Kajiado County. The main goal was of developing a strategy for establishing multi institutional linkages for effective delivery of livestock inputs and services in a semi-arid pastoralist region. Sahiwal is dominant and is preferred due to its dual purpose traits of milk and beef production and adaptability to the dry climatic conditions, its breeding was a challenge as the livestock keepers have to travel long distances. Priority diseases for livestock in the district are: FMD for cattle; CCPP in goats; Black Quarter in sheep and New castle disease in local poultry. Livestock keepers travel long distances to access important inputs. Stakeholders resolved to establish a multi institutional resource centre comprising of key stakeholders from public and private sector. This resource centre to be managed by the locals for easy accessibility and supervised by the extension officers.
