Maternal near miss is defined as pregnant women with severe life-threatening conditions who nearly die but survive with good luck or good care. This study aimed to determine the incidence of maternal near miss, and to identify the risk factors contributing to it in Gaza Strip. Retrospective case-control study was used. The case group consisted of 243 identified near-miss cases, and the control group consisted of 243 women who had normal pregnancy and delivery.The study concluded that more efforts are needed to improve maternal health services in Gaza Strip, and emphasize the imperative need for training of obstetricians and midwives on emergency obstetric management.
