This book examines the modes of resistance and assimilation in Arab-American women's poetry. In order to do so it investigates the origins of Arab-American literature and the history of Arabs and their immigration to America and the production and reception of Arab-American texts by the American mainstream culture. My intention is to clarify the modes of resistance and assimilation as two important aspects in Arab-American writings and the forces that formulate and shape these modes, and the extent to which these modes reflect the complexities and difficulties that Arab-American face in their daily life in America.
