O knihe
This novel stimulates intense thought. An artistic and disillusioned career woman, Helen lets her bright eighteen years old son Peter, read her diary, add his comments and narratives to it, thus to create literature. The experiment succeeds splendidly. An exciting, very original novel is created. The format is obviously a "novelty", the candor of Helen's self - revelations extraordinary, and there is conspicuous originality in Peter's commentary. Putting himself at an "aesthetic distance" from his mother, he refers to her constantly as Helen, someone not quite familiar to him. Yet it is the ingenious use of all the content in this novel that impresses as innovative artistry. The merit of the book also includes: allusions to music and musical themes for all chapters. Helen releases practically a Pandora's box in her diary because all blessings and curses of life are elucidated by sparkling dialogues between fascinating people in this novel (the dialogues make possibly its Tour de Force). Discussions become particularly ardent when Helen's sublime lover, Claude, enters as spokesman for truth, freedom and passion: There are also cases of actual drama revealed in the diary: unemployment, drug addiction, furious battles of sexes, untimely deaths, a strange suicide - even a patricide, but all descriptions of turbulent life relate effectively to a central theme, a career woman's always original story. Read this stunning novel!
