Discussions become particularly ardent when Helen's sublime lover, Claude, enters as spokesman for truth, freedom and passion: There are also cases of actual drama revealed in the diary: unemployment, drug addiction, furious battles of sexes, untimely deaths, a strange suicide - even a patricide, but all descriptions of turbulent life relate effectively to a central theme, a career woman's always original story.
