The workforce in the British National Health Service has become more diverse due to the increased recruitment of overseas nurses in the late 1990s and early 2000s. This diversity has brought some positive effects. However, overseas nurses have frequently cited racism and harassment as distressing experiences in their working life in NHS hospitals, as well as in the private sector. This book explores motivations and experiences for black African nurses who leave their countries and move to the United Kingdom. A migratory framework if used to analyse these experiences and place them in the context of skilled migration in a globalised world.
