The intention of the present work is to study the extent of VAM association in some common ethnomedicinally important plants of Darjeeling.In this context it may be mentioned here that as a part of eastern Himalaya, Darjeeling district is very much rich with medicinal plants that demand a lot of interest of local people for herbal resources and neighboring tribal people use the medicinal plants of this area frequently for ethno botanical purposes. So the investigation on VAM fungal biodiversity in medicinal plants of this area has a significance economy and commercial importance of our society. Considering the growing demands of medicinal plants for therapeutic treatments to human society and the role of VAM in their survival, our attention has prompted us to make a thorough survey on VAM/AM fungal association, their diversity and distribution in some medicinally important angiosperms of Darjeeling.
