One of the main aims of this book is to contribute to the development of skills and attitudes within readers and researcher that will better equip them to face the challenges of real-world design problems. There are already many exciting application examples of Neural Network techniques in the established fields of electrical, mechanical, and mechatronics engineering. We have only to look around in today's highly automated society to see the increasing use of Neural Network systems in the many artifacts available to the domestic consumer market and to industry. However, there are currently many challenging problems that could benefit from wider exposure to the applicability of these methodologies, and the systematic systems-oriented basis inherent in the application of Neural Network techniques.
