Nursing robbed us of our youth and produced long term anxiety. Many of our class developed post traumatic stress. I quit counting deaths that I was present at but it was somewhere around 500. I read a nurses book who had served in Vietnam and then finally I began to cry. This book tells you exactly how it was. If we cried on duty about a patient we were chastised and if followed us on our evaluations, after I returned, I was finally to cry.
